“One third of women said they had been unable to go to work due to their symptoms.
Women who reported at least one problematic symptom at the age of 50 were 43% more likely to have left their jobs by the age of 55, and 23% more likely to have reduced their hours.”

What can employers do to support menopause?
Employee mental and physical health
Menopause statistics show that women are really struggling at work during the menopause transition. The UK Parliament report on menopause and the workplace 2022-23 confirms this, stating:
“One third of women said they had been unable to go to work due to their symptoms. Women who reported at least one problematic symptom at the age of 50 were 43% more likely to have left their jobs by the age of 55, and 23% more likely to have reduced their hours.“
Employee retention
In the same report, Oxford Economics suggest that if a woman earning £25,000 a year leaves her job due to problematic symptoms, it will cost £30,500 to replace her. Menopause costs the UK economy 14 million working days per year (Health and Her).
Supporting staff
Workplace education is a simple, cost effective way to support female employees and gain a strong reputation as an organisation that strives to retain their female talent, who are often at the peak of their knowledge at this time.
All women deserve to understand how menopause affects the body and brain, why it affects sleep, can cause weight gain and brain fog. And all the other symptoms which are not so often mentioned.
