Last weekend I made greenhouse staging (shelves for seedlings etc) from scratch, from a photograph. Yes my friends as a complete carpentry rookie and without any help -not even youtube- I sawed the wood, measured it all up, worked it all out in my head..(so much strong thinking), drilled pilot holes and screwed it all together. And it worked! I am pretty flabbergasted by this.
I’m desperate to get in the greenhouse to plant all the seeds now, you will know where to find me at the weekend!
I have never been remotely interested in carpentry, and it's not something I want to make again. But I am sick of not being able (albeit in my head) to ‘do stuff’ that has always been the work of men and therefore seemingly impossible- of course it's not! Trust me, sawing wood is deeply satisfying, as is seeing the fruits of your labour. And then it just stays there being useful. Unlike a dinner, or a baby.. You get my gist…
Why am I telling you this?
Now, I am here to talk to you about menopause and all there is to do with it. So what has a sudden determination to build the above got to do with the menopause you ask - as well you may.
Estrogen! Or less estrogen I should say, may well have a lot to do with it. Giving less fucks, not caring what others think, and being a tad more bloody minded? Also having the physical strength to do it after a few years of strength training and functional movement. And then there is my recent cessation of the drinking of alcoholic beverages, and eating of gluten. Could this have helped? I am certainly feeling pretty good, less anxiety, less brain fog, more energy. Energy is everything and I am so grateful to have lots of it after feeling so burnt out.
My point is that if we resist listening to all the doom and gloom around ageing, we can do mighty things, and even surprise ourselves. Ignore the noise and crack on my lovelies!
